More Baby Boomers Getting Breast Surgery

More Baby Boomers Getting Breast Surgery

June 28, 2007 -

The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons recently reported that more than 50 percent of those who received breast implants in 2006 were 35 and older.

In some cases, older women are opting for breast augmentation after seeing the results of their daughters who have undergone the procedure.

Why Do More Moms Want Surgery?

Plastic surgeon Allan Patronage explains that there was a 279 percent increase in breast implant operations from 1997 to 2006.

Dr. Parungao claims that this increase is due, in part, to the fact that younger women who have implants are serving as an inspiration to their mothers.

Baby Boomers are seeking plastic surgery to look as good as they feel, explains Dr. Parungao.

Like Mother Like Daughter

Adriana, 53, a surgeon who at one time didnt believe in plastic surgery, decided to get the operation after her daughter, Karen, 21, went under the knife.

I was so sick of wearing outfits I could only wear with a padded bra and I didnt feel totally comfortable, says Adriana.

Both mother and daughter are happy with their outcome and prove that breast augmentation surgery isnt restrictive to age.

I have full hips and didnt have the top to match it; now I do, says Karen.

Adriana agrees with her daughter, stating, All I wanted was to look the way I envisioned myself, and now I think my breasts are in proportion to my body.

First Bras Designed for Augmented Breasts Hit U.K. Market

First Bras Designed for Augmented Breasts Hit U.K. Market

June 21, 2007 -

A new line of bras designed specifically to support cosmetically altered breasts that are higher and rounder and stick out more than natural breasts was introduced today in Great Britain. The Le Mystre No9 line of brassieres was designed by an American plastic surgeon, Dr. David Brothers, who says that he was inspired to design the bras after his patients complained of not being able to find bras to fit their bustier shape after having breast augmentation procedures.

Dr. Brothers said that there is a recent trend of patients asking for pointier breasts with a narrow base and more projection, meaning that traditional bras tend not to fit properly, as the conical shape of the cup doesn’t allow the breast to sit comfortably. The new bras feature a mathematically designed spherical shape that matches the shape of the most commonly used implants.

The bras also have underwiring, but rather than the standard oval-shaped underwire that often doesn’t hold augmented breasts correctly, the new bras’ underwire is a complete semi-circle to match the more narrow base of breast implants. In addition, the Le Mystre No9 bras have a central connector that better matches the distance between cups for breasts that have been augmented.

The new bras are available in the following designs:

  • T-shirt bra
  • Front closure t-shirt bra
  • Lace bra
  • Sheer triangle bra
  • Strapless bra

All of the designs are available in cup sizes from C to E. As the CEO of Le Mystre, Michael Rabinowitz, pointed out, Women have gone through the surgery process have a newfound confidence in the way they look, but are often let down by the range of ordinary bras available to them. The No9 range is functional, but very fashionable and definitely ultra chic.

Combining Breast Procedures Proves to be Risk Free

Combining Breast Procedures Proves to be Risk Free

June 14, 2007 -

As the desire for breast augmentation continues to grow throughout the country having primary and secondary operations is becoming more common.

Mastopexy, more commonly known as a breast lift, is becoming increasingly desirable for those in the baby boomer generation that want to preserve their youthful physical appearance.

Getting both surgeries done at once is also popular with patients who want to alleviate operation costs and recovery time.

A Peak Into Safety Research

Although having two operations has been considered complicated and risky in the past, recent data shows that with advances in technology theres little evidence that combining breast implant surgery and a breast lift is harmful to patients.

Dr. Grant Stevens and Dr. David Stoker analyzed the outcomes of 100 consecutive combined breast augmentation and breast lift surgeries performed between 1992 and 2005.

In comparing the outcomes of those with the patients who simply got a breast lift done, the health and recovery time of all the patients appeared to be the same.

We found that the 100 patients who had the secondary combination procedure experienced complication and revision rates very similar to those of the other two groups, said Dr. Stevens.

New Research Shows Breast Implants Improve Self-Esteem

New Research Shows Breast Implants Improve Self-Esteem

June 7, 2007 -

Breast Implants have always been known to improve a womans physical appearance but a new study reveals that the surgery is also linked with boosting self-esteem and sexual satisfaction.

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 1.9 million cosmetic surgeries were performed in 2006 and 329,000 of these were breast enlargement procedures.

These statistics also show that more than two million women in the U.S. currently have breast implants.

New Finds

Cynthia Figueroa-Haas, the clinical assistant professor at the University of Florida who led a research study on the affects of breast implants, claims that psychological benefits of plastic surgery procedures, such as breast augmentations, could be highly significant.

In the study they followed 84 women between the ages of 21 and 57 getting breast implants and using empirical instruments, documented the patients behavior before and after having the operation.

The study revealed that about 20% of the tested women had a boost in self-esteem following the breast augmentation procedure and 80% had an increase in sexual desire and arousal.

Why the Boost in Self-Image?

The University of Florida study offers new insight into the benefits of cosmetic surgery for women.

This study confirms what we often see following surgery, explains Dr. Neal Handel, a surgeon with Aesthetic Surgical Partners, after breast enlargement, many women have a whole new outlook on life, and are far more energized about their personal appearance.

Women with small or awkwardly shaped breasts are often self-conscious about their appearance, which undermines their overall confidence in intimate settings.

Given the popularity of breast enlargement procedures nationwide, I think it is important for women to recognize all the potential benefits of surgery, states Dr. Handel.
