A recent study reveals that when it comes to facial cosmetic surgery, most Americans feel safer having the procedure done by a certified facial plastic surgeon that specializes in these types of procedures.

The study, conducted by Kelton Research, found that 83 percent of Americans who have undergone cosmetic facial procedures have opted to go to a certified facial plastic surgeon rather than generalist. The study also revealed that this belief is a common trend among all ages of individuals seeking facial plastic surgery.

The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), a professional society representing the specialty of facial plastic surgery, published a list of recommendations to help guide patients who are seeking a plastic surgeon.

One of the recommendations is to research the background of the plastic surgeon before scheduling the procedure. The AAFPRS suggests that before meeting with a surgeon, the individual looking to undergo a cosmetic procedure should investigate to make sure the surgeon is actually certified in facial plastic surgery. The AAFPRS offers free information packets and resources on specific cosmetic procedures. They recommend that all individuals who are considering plastic surgery read the materials ahead of time so they can understand the procedure and compile a list of questions to ask the potential surgeon.

The AAFPRS, which was founded in 1964, was built to “promote the highest quality facial plastic surgery through education, dissemination of professional information, and the establishment of professional standards.”

Members of the society have dedicated themselves to helping individuals seeking facial cosmetic surgery to feel safe and secure in their decision. They have made the commitment to being “the public’s information source on facial plastic surgery.”
