Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon - Jennifer Keagle MD
The importance of Board Certification
I think it is so important to be Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. I especially think it is important in Los Angeles. I trained for 10 years after medical school; general surgery residency for 5 years, 2 years of basic science research, 2 years of plastic surgery residency and one year of craniofacial fellowship. When I see practitioners in Los Angeles ranging from Emergency Room Physicians to Dentists to Dermatologists stating that they do what I do; it upsets me. Not only because of the number of years I devoted to training so that I can better serve my patients, but because of the number of people in the general public who don’t know that they are not Board Certified Plastic Surgeons; boarded by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. I spend a fair amount of time educating people on the difference. These are well-educated friends and acquaintances that are so used to everyone saying they do Plastic Surgery that they don’t know the difference. I think being board-certified is so important that I became board-certified in general surgery as well. I think being board certified shows a commitment and education that is unparalleled and think because of that I am able to serve my patients well.
