Camouflage cosmetics are an excellent asset to patients who are recovering from plastic surgery.  Camouflage cosmetics are specifically designed to safely and effectively hide the swelling, bruising, and incision lines of plastic surgery until they naturally heal with time.  These products are hypoallergenic, fragrance free, and designed to deliver post-operative benefits.

Most patients who receive plastic surgery are eager to return to work and other daily activities.  Even when the physician decides that a patient is physically healthy enough to resume social and daily activities, s/he may be uncomfortable with the fading effects of the surgical procedure.  Most cosmetic surgery patients experience some minor side effects from their procedures that may take days, weeks, or months to fade.  During this time, many patients benefit tremendously from the use of camouflage cosmetics.

It is important for patients to consult with their surgeon prior to commencing use of any camouflage cosmetics.  As a general rule, camouflage cosmetics are used for a few days after surgery to conceal bruising and swelling.  Typically, camouflage cosmetics cannot be used on incisions lines until the stitches have been removed and a certain amount of healing has been achieved.  After certain types of cosmetic procedures, use of camouflage cosmetics may be acceptable after a cast or compression garments have been removed.

Camouflage cosmetics can be used appropriately after virtually any surgery.  Because the face is most unconcealable and noticeable part of the body, camouflage cosmetics are particularly beneficial to people who have received facial surgery.  There are different types of camouflage cosmetics that can provide specific benefits for a cosmetic surgery patient.

Concealers are thicker than regular cosmetic foundations and are excellent at disguising bruising, swelling, scarring, and incision lines.  Color correcting camouflage cosmetics conceal bruising and discoloration with specially tinted formulas.  Contouring camouflage cosmetics are particularly useful for swelling and create dimension through the use of shadow and light.

These camouflage cosmetics can be used alone or in combination, as needed and recommended by a patient's cosmetic surgeon.  These products are thicker than other cosmetics and should be removed with a cleansing cream and followed up with a toner and moisturizer, as recommended.  If any unwanted effects should occur with use of camouflage cosmetics, it is important to consult with your skin and surgery professional.
