Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction is a liposuction method that results in minimal invasion, allowing a much quicker recovery. Most tumescent liposuction patients use only local anesthetic and report minimal pain and discomfort following the procedure.
The tumescent liposuction procedure involves injecting a mixture of local anesthetic, adrenaline, and saline just below the skin. Tumescent liposuction uses the anesthetic (lidocaine) to numb the surgical area, and adrenaline to constrict blood vessels. Tumescent liposuction, because of these two factors, results in less discomfort and blood loss than traditional liposuction. After the solution is injected into the surgical sites, it spreads throughout the tissues. Tumescent liposuction patients will see some bloating as the fluids spread under the skin. The tumescent liposuction process removes most of the liquid, and any remaining fluids will drain through the tumescent liposuction openings.
Tumescent liposuction physicians generally prefer that the patient remain conscious throughout the tumescent liposuction procedure—one of the advantages of only needing local anesthetic is that tumescent liposuction patients can provide feedback to the physician throughout the process. While a few tumescent liposuction patients request sedatives or general anesthesia, many enjoy the chance to participate actively in their tumescent liposuction procedure.
Because of the smaller incisions and the reduced bleeding in the tumescent liposuction process, patient recovery is generally much quicker than in traditional liposuction procedures. Physicians using tumescent liposuction have noted decreased discomfort and bruising, more rapid recovery, and less swelling among their tumescent liposuction patients. Individuals interested in this specific procedure may find it helpful to contact a tumescent liposuction physician for additional information.
