Over-the-counter Lip Enhancers
According to plastic surgeons at the University of Washington, over-the-counter lip enhancers create no significant change in lip size. The study, which was in the Archives of Facial and Plastic Surgery, included before-and-after pictures of seven people who tried an unnamed lip balm for one to four months.
Though the researchers said the lip enhancer was harmless, only one person said they would use the product again. Researcher Sam Most said in a news release that prior to the study’s results the participants had consulted with the university’s cosmetic surgery center about lip enhancement and were motivated to try the product.
Most says that proven methods of lip enhancement include filler injections and plastic surgery. The study says that consumers can expect more ineffective devices or cosmetics claiming certain results because of the increasing demand for facial enhancement methods and that more studies will be needed to discern what works and what does not as the products come to market.
