How Effective Are Ceullulite Treatments?

About 90 percent of women are affected by cellulite, and the search to find an effective way to reduce the appearance of the puckering skin has resulted in countless numbers of treatments promising they will do just that – sometimes at very expensive costs. Searching for cellulite treatments on the Internet will result in some five million hits, but many doctors are unimpressed by the claims that certain creams will diminish cellulite.

According to experts, a topical cream will mostly affect the wallet before it makes a noticeable difference on a person’s cellulite. A treatment called thermage claimed it could reshape the fat under the skin to smooth out the lumps cellulite appears as, but the once promising cellulite treatment can also cause skin deformities.

The popular cellulite treatment endermologie massages and suctions, and when used over several months, along with maintenance, the technique has displayed modest results. Endermologie boasts relative painless sensations, and many women have been encouraged with the results given they can afford the sometimes hefty fee involved. Results have been shown to vary depending on the person administering the treatment, so it is important to identify a qualified technician.

Mesotherapy injects enzymes into the affected area using needles to supposedly shrink the fat. So far, mesotherapy is yet to be approved in the United States, but the therapy is used in Europe and South America. Some people are able to see a noticeable difference with weight loss and exercise, but even the fittest individuals can have cellulite. Liposuction is a surgical plastic surgery procedure that removes excess fat from the body with suction, and some surgeons believe this procedure is able to effectively battle the appearance of cellulite.

Last year, a combination of skin suction and laser called Triactive was FDA approved, and some supporters of the procedure believe the method has a lot of promise in treating cellulite. Another procedure, called Velasmooth, combines infrared light and radiofrequency and is expected to receive FDA approval this year.

Because of the high number of people affected by cellulite, and the persistent search to erase signs of it, research for an effective treatment method is expected to be actively pursued in years to come.
