According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, “buttock lifts” are increasing in popularity throughout the United States.

Between 2000 and 2005 the number of lifts increased 283 percent from 1,356 to 5, 193, making what many refer to as the “Brazilian Butt-Lift”, one of the most desired cosmetic surgeries to date.

The Cosmetic Procedure

Women across the nation are embracing the idea of a curvy body and are opting to go under the knife for that perfect derriere.

Dr. Anthony Griffin, a Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon explains that the most popular form of buttock enhancement involves taking fat from the abdomen area and injecting it into the muscles of the rear end.

Plastic surgeons can also insert silicone implants as opposed to using the fat injection technique, though sometimes these shift around and become hard.

In about 10 percent to 30 percent of the cases, the fat tissue transplanted is reabsorbed instead of staying where it should, which means that many times the surgery has to be repeated.

Depending on the length of the procedure, it can cost anywhere from $12, 000 to $18,000, which isn’t covered by insurance.

Other Reasons for the Lift

Not only are people getting buttock lift for cosmetic purposes, but those who have just undergone gastric bypass surgery are also choosing to have the procedure done.

In gastric bypass surgery people often lose a significant amount of weight and the skin on the derriere typically sags. By pulling up the skin and cutting off the excess, patients can feel more confident when the surgery is all through.
