Neurotoxins, like Botox, Are Here to Stay!
The power behind neurotoxins to improve a brow and corner of the mouth position competes head–to-head with surgical options for forty year olds. As Laurie Casas, Associate Professor of Surgery Fineberg School of Medicine Glenview, Illnois explains,
"Botox is a critical aid for the prevention of forehead wrinkles and the mainstay for preserving a youthful brow appearance from the mid thirties on.” Primarily, Botox serves to relax the static lines of the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes. In addition, Botox can be initiated before wrinkles are apparent to prevent the onset of wrinkles to come.
The traditional philosophy behind injectibles is to refill, reposition and relax. The relax portion of this equation is where neurotoxins step in. Neurotoxins take action on nerve cells to release contractions of the muscles, appearing as wrinkles or folds on the face.
Some people simply require the relax segment of treatment. Others require a filler such as Restylane or Sculptra to build volume in the treatment area. Then, the area can be repositioned and relaxed through a neurotoxin.
Plastic surgeons in the U.S. are trained in all three areas: build volume when necessary and vector for relaxation and optimal positioning. Europe has a number of neurotoxins for consumers to choose from. Soon, they may be accessible in the U.S. as Botox alternatives.
