Many Seeking Eternal Youth in 20s
Many cosmetic surgery experts have noticed a trend in the quest for aesthetic solutions to the signs of aging. Most people seeking cosmetic fixes to stop the signs of aging are in their 50s, 40s, and in less frequent cases 30s. Now experts are finding that many women in their 20s are committed to delaying the signs of aging through cosmetic treatments such as anti-wrinkle creams and other treatments.
Joanne Katsigiannis, a 24-year-old woman who has been using anti-aging products for two years, says, “Instead of starting when you are 40 or 45, you might as well start now.” Like many young women, she began tanning in her teens without proper protection against harmful UV rays. She believes her current skin care regiment is the key to preventing the signs of skin damage and aging. Other young women believe cosmetic treatments will help keep up their appearance before the damage begins.
For another 24-year old woman in Michigan, using anti-aging products is a matter of vanity: she wants to maintain her youthful look. She says that appearance and aging are important concerns for her and her peers. Many people, both men and women, believe that women are subject to the most pressure over maintaining a youthful appearance. But women are not alone in this, some men in their 20s have also began to use anti-aging products to delay the signs of aging.
Dr. Sam Speron, an Illinois plastic surgeon, developed a cosmetic product line for women aged 35 to 55. Surprisingly, he has found that approximately 25 percent of all his cosmetic product customers are under the age of 30. While he says it is surprising, he is not shocked. Because younger people are more educated about the deleterious effects of the sun and the effects of aging, he argues, these people are more focused on keeping and maintaining the youthful image they have today.
Many women believe that non-invasive skin care treatments will possibly mitigate the likelihood they will require surgical fixes in the future. Many young people want to stop wrinkles in their tracks, before they ever show up.
