For the past year, stories about plastic surgery have been dominating the headlines. Technological innovations and rapidly improving surgical techniques have made this an exciting time in plastic surgery.

Based on its rapidly increasing popularity, the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) recently presented the Top Plastic Surgery Hot Topics

1. Plastic surgery isn't for just the rich and famous anymoreAccording to a groundbreaking study, 71 percent of those considering plastic surgery had household incomes of less than $60,000 annually compared with 13 percent of those with annual income of more than $90,000.

2. Injectable fillers and laser treatments rule The most recent ASPS statistics show that minimally invasive procedures such as injectable fillers and laser treatments are quickly becoming the preferred method of cosmetic enhancement. Last year, the number of minimally invasive procedures performed rose by 36 percent.

3. Plastic surgery patients are more diverseEthnic patients are seeking plastic surgery more and more frequently. Over the course of a year, the number of ethnic plastic surgery patients increased by nearly 50 percent.

4. Cosmetic procedures elude new taxes – Legislation in at least six states that would have imposed a tax on cosmetic procedures was rejected by lawmakers, marking a significant victory for the average American.

5. The return of silicone breast implants -The Food and Drug Administration is expected to approve the return of silicone breast implants made by Inamed and Mentor to the market after 13 years of restricted use.
