Thousands of people go under the knife every year to reduce the effects of aging around the eyes. Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is one of the top three most popular cosmetic surgeries performed annually. However, there's a new eyelift procedure that's less invasive and more natural.
Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Eyes by Thermage, a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that uses radio-frequency technology to tighten the area around the eye and produce new collagen growth.
Thermage eye tightening safely treats eyelid tissue as well as firms the entire eye area to minimize the appearance of hooded lids, under-eye bags, and crow's feet. Patients should see increased improvement in the first four to six months after the procedure.
“Having an option to perk up heavy-lidded eyes and shrink under-eye bags without sutures, welling, bruising, or time off from work is of enormous benefit to busy professionals. There are no tell-tale signs that you've done anything,” said Dr. Nissan Pilest, a Board Certified Dermatologist and Medical Director of Total Dermatology in Irvine, Calif.
According to Pilest, Termage eye tightening allows patients to get the results they want without looking “over-done.”
“The results [of Thermage] are certainly more subtle, but that's the beauty of it. You'll just look naturally more awake, younger, and vibrant,” he said.
