Facial Stimulators Produce No Results
A recent study performed at the University of Washington Medical Center’s Cosmetic Surgery Center has shown that over the counter facial stimulators produce little, if any age defying results.
The over-the-counter devices allegedly operate by electrically stimulating the facial muscles to improve tone and reduce signs of aging skin. However, in a study performed over a four-month period in which participants regularly used the stimulators, no substantial results were noticed.
Following the four-month period, plastic surgeons were asked to examine the participants for any changes. “We were unable to detect any improvement in signs of facial aging from the use of these devices,” commented Dr. Sam Most, an assistant professor of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.
The participants of the trial also admitted to seeing no results from facial stimulators and even reported mild discomfort with the two tested devices.
In a similar study performed last year to assess the effectiveness of lip enhancement products, similar results were found.
Currently in the United States, there are over 50 different types of facial stimulators that are on the market, sold in stores and on the Internet.
