A recent study conducted by two surgeons based out of California shows the benefits of fibrin glue when used during facelift surgery.

Results of the study were published in last month's issue of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal.

According to the doctors, the study gives the most comprehensive clinical assessment of the use of fibrin glue during facelift surgery.

The Study

The surgeons analyzed one hundred of their patients over a one-year period that had received fibrin glue during surgery.

The deep plane technique was used on each of the patients.

During the deep plane technique, the large skin flaps are repositioned at multiple levels of the face.

After following the patients through their three month-recovery, the doctors found that the fibrin glue was associated with several significant benefits for both short and long-term healing.

How Fibrin Glue Works

The fibrin glue, which is typically applied before the external flap of skin is resealed, helps to alleviate the need for drainage tubes that cause discomfort post-surgery.

The glue is also said to reduce the possibility of severe complications from occurring such as, hematoma, seroma, and death.

Fibrin glue has been approved by the FDA for various surgeries and has been used across the U.S. and in Europe for aesthetic surgeries.

“With this technique, my patients benefit from shorter recovery periods, fewer complications, and superior surgical outcomes,” explains Dr. Davis Nguyen.
