Cosmetic fillers gaining popularity
Cosmetic fillers, most often used in the lips and in laugh lines between the nose and mouth, are now also being used under the eyes to get rid of the appearance of dark circles.
Plastic surgeons have been using a new filler that eliminates the appearance of sunken eyes by injecting hyaluronic acid underneath the patient’s eyes after applying a topical numbing cream. The nonsurgical cosmetic procedure camouflages the appearance of eye bags by filling in the depression under the eye.
Although the effects are temporary, patients do not have to be exposed to the risks associated to a standard, surgical eye lift, and the brief procedure requires no downtime or healing. Lasting anywhere from three to six months, patients can have the procedure performed within a lunch break.
Currently, several fillers are available on the market, but there are more possibilities waiting for FDA approval. As with any cosmetic procedure, each patient must weigh both the risks and benefits alongside a reputable and experienced cosmetic surgeon.
