Michele Trobaugh regrets the day that she went to see Dr. Jan Adams looking to get a breast augmentation, tummy tuck and liposuction.

Trobaugh, who was 28-years-old at the time of her surgery, was eager to fix her breasts, which weren’t the same size and was persuaded by Dr. Adams to get the other procedures.

“I fell for his charm. I fell for his confidence,” says Trobaugh.

Surgery Complications

After her surgery Trobaugh says that she woke up to a nightmare.

“The next day I woke up fighting for every breath. It was like an elephant was sitting on my chest,” explains Trobaugh.

She reportedly had three infections and a second surgery had to be done to remove fluid from her hips.

Five Tips for Picking a Good Surgeon

Plastic surgeons have the following tips for those who are looking to get plastic surgery in the future:

  • Make Sure the Surgeon is Board Certified- You want to make sure that your doctor is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. If you use a board certified surgeon then you are guaranteed that the surgeon has completed two to three years of required training.
  • Check the Surgeon’s Record- It is important to check the surgeon’s background and surgical history to ensure that he has had no medical malpractice cases held against him.
  • Ask if the Surgeon has Hospital Privileges- Whether or not you have your surgery at an outpatient clinic, it’s important to know if your surgeon has hospital privileges.
  • Ask Your Doctor Questions- Surgeons say that it’s important to know how often your doctor has performed the surgery that you want.
  • Be Careful of Multiple Procedures- According to plastic surgeons, when you bundle surgeries together, the risk factor can often increase.
