A new and very personal operation is growing in popularity among women in the United States. Vaginal rejuvenation is a procedure, which restores vaginal strength, primarily after a woman has endured the births of two or more children.

“We’re doing laser vaginal rejuvenation which is a procedure that can correct vaginal relaxation with very minimal risks and very, very fast recovery,” comments Dr. Elias Mualin, a plastic surgeon in Miami.

According to Dr. Mualin, “More than 30-million women suffer from vaginal relaxation.” This very intimate problem is often not talked about because women may be embarrassed or ashamed.

Cheryl Harrington underwent the laser tightening process. “I felt very insecure. I felt as though I wasn’t satisfying my husband,” said Harrington.

Another procedure women are also now seeking is designed to change the appearance of the vaginal area. This procedure, called labiaplasty, “can actually make it appear more youthful,” according to Dr. Mualin. Labiaplasty utilizes laser rejuvenation to achieve a desired look.

The last intimate procedure available that has caused recent controversy in the media is called re-virginization. Re-virginization surgery actually reattaches a woman’s hymen to its original state.

“It makes no sense, it’s a form of abusing your own body,” comments Dr. Louis Weinstein, a gynecologist from Jefferson University Hospital. “It’s absolutely un-necessary, potentially dangerous, and there’s almost no medical reason to ever have it done.”

Regardless of the procedure, Dr. Mualin and Dr. Harrington agree that to undergo any form of vaginal reconstructive surgery is a very private decision that women have the right to consider.

“I believe a lot more women have this problem than people know and they shouldn’t be ashamed, they should go get help,” said Dr. Harrington.

Currently in the United States, these procedures are not commonly offered and can be very expensive.
