Laser Liposuction 'Vaporizes Fat' in Less Than an Hour
A new non-invasive liposuction technique, which employs the use of a fat-zapping laser, can melt away unsightly cellulite, saddlebags, double chins, and arm flab in less than an hour.
“It's the first laser that vaporizes the fat. The really amazing thing is that it not only takes away the fat, it also tightens the skin overlying it,” Dr. Bruce Katz, clinical professor of Dermatology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, said of SmartLipo. Katz has been using the quick and painless technique as part of an FDA study.
SmartLipo is already available in Britain, Australia, the Far East, and Italy. The innovation is currently awaiting FDA approval for use in America.
“We should get approval in a month and a half at the latest,” said Alessandro Bizzarri, an executive at the Italian firm that manufactures the product.
If approved, patients will be able to have unwanted fat removed during their lunch breaks. Patients receive a local anesthetic prior to undergoing the treatment and stay awake the entire time. A small incision is made but stitches are not required and no scars are left behind.
SmartLipo costs the same as traditional liposuction procedures, starting at about $3,000 and depending on the number of areas being treated.
