Liposuction To Boost Breast Size?

It might sound too good to be true, but a few plastic surgeons are claiming that some patients who undergo liposuction to remove fat from the abdomen and thigh area experience a natural breast enhancement.

Dermasurgeon Eric Finzi, MD, conducted a small study involving 60 female patients to test this theory. He found that 43 percent of the women who had liposuction around their stomach also saw a significant increase in their bust—between one to two cup sizes.

“When you remove this fat [from the abdomen], then other hormones in the body are able to increase breast size,” Finzi explains.

Better Methods For Breast Enhancement

While a breast boost may be considered an added benefit for those undergoing liposuction, it definitely isn't a proven method.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Terry Hand believes that breast enhancement seen in liposuction patients occurs less than 10 percent of the time. He explains that liposuction procedures work to eliminate fat cells from different areas of the body. So if a patient gains weight, the fat cells have to go somewhere and may ultimately end up in the chest area.

It “might” be a possibility in “very rare cases” that patients would see a natural enhancement in their breast, but there is no scientific or factual evidence, Finzi adds.

So as good as it might sound, patients shouldn't choose liposuction if what they really want is bigger boobs. Liposuction is ideal for contouring and sculpting the body and implants are a proven method for breast augmentation .
