An Internet survey shows that 71 percent of people seeking plastic surgery make $60,000 or less, a far cry from the wealthy socialite stereotype that used to exist.  Commissioned by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the study included 60 in-depth interviews among people who had contacted the ASPS referral service to find a plastic surgeon.

The findings appear in the Sept. 1 issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.  According to the researchers, the only thing that they discovered that was typical among the wide range of prospective and past plastic surgery patients was how thoughtful they were about undergoing the procedures.
