Study: Men Need More Botox Than Women
January 3, 2008
Cosmetic procedures are becoming increasingly popular with men, and Botox tops the list of most sought after non-surgical cosmetic procedures for both genders. However, men don’t always experience satisfactory results from Botox and researchers set out to determine why.
The Study
In a study published in Dermatologic Therapy, researchers reported that inadequate doses of Botox are often to blame for unsatisfactory results. Men have more muscle mass than women, and to achieve comparable results, they may require greater doses.
Size Matters
The authors of the study noted that gender is not the sole factor for determining dosage. Small-framed, slender men may not need as much Botox as larger men, and may achieve satisfactory results with the same dosage given to women.
Men (and women) who are considering Botox injections should discuss any concerns with their physician.
