‘Tis the season for dry and damaged skin, and men are less likely than women to do something about it. However, just because men are more likely to ignore their skin doesn’t mean they should, and there are a few quick but important steps men can take to reduce damage caused by the cold winter months.

1. Wash your face morning and night with a cleanser that contains alpha-hydroxy acid.

2. Shave often. Shaving is a chore for some men, but it pays off. When done with a razor, shaving exfoliates the skin and keeps it looking young and healthy.

3. Moisturize frequently. Make sure the moisturizer has protection against both UVA and UVB rays, both of which can accelerate the aging process.

Sun Damage Even in the Winter
Much attention has been paid in recent years to the harmful effects of the sun on the skin, and for good reason. Sun exposure can cause skin cancer and premature aging, so the importance of skin protection cannot be overemphasized.

Even during the winter, when most people assume they’re safe from these damaging effects, the sun still takes its toll on the skin. UVA rays are the strength throughout the year, penetrate deeper into the skin, and are responsible for wrinkling. UVB rays also contribute to the aging process, but the strength of UVB rays varies according to place and season.

The bottom line: The skin is the largest organ in the body. Make sure you protect it daily!
