Olive Oil: Beauty Tips For the Skin
There is a multitude of evidence indicating that a diet based on olive oil can promote a longer life and prevent diseases such as cancer and heart conditions. But did you know that olive oil is also a rich source of antioxidants, which helps slow down the aging process as well as offer a number of other cosmetic benefits. By adding olive oil to your beauty regimen, you can smooth out your skin, condition your hair, strengthen your nails, and more. Incorporate these simple kitchen cupboard beauty tips into your daily routine and notice the difference:
- Mix ½ cup olive oil, ¼ cup vinegar, and ¼ cup water to make a night cream that will leave your skin glowing. The olive oil will help soften and moisturize your skin and the vinegar will lighten slight discolorations, kill bacteria and exfoliate dead skin cells.
- Create your own facemask with extra virgin olive oil and good quality clay mud or avocado. Mix well, apply to face for five to 10 minutes, and rinse.
- Give yourself a facial. Wet your face, massage olive oil onto your skin, scrub your face with half a teaspoon of sugar, and wipe off gently with a warm, wet cloth.
- Rub olive oil onto your elbows, knees, heels, or other dry spots to immediately feel softer and smoother.
- Use two to three tablespoons of olive oil in a bath and come out feeling silky all over.
- Condition your hair. Put a dime-sized drop of olive oil into your palm, rub both hands together, and lightly apply to dry, frizzy hair.
- Rub olive oil on your feet and put on a pair of thick, which cotton socks to help soften up your tootsies.
- Soak you fingernails into a bowl of warm olive oil to smooth out cuticles and strengthen nails.
- Melt some olive oil with beeswax and use it as lip balm or just pat a little oil directly on your lips.
