Recently, Cosmetassure announced the results of a study conducted through their participating physician clients. The study denoted that of over 89,000 invasive surgical procedures, one out of every fifty-nine patients experienced an unplanned medical complication.

The unplanned medical complications resulted from the rule out of a complication or a complication itself. Though uncommon, complications can be costly. As Dr. James Grotting, founder of Cosmetassure, explains, "Health insurance policies do not cover complications resulting from aesthetic procedures. Even a minor complication can produce a financial burden."?

Participants in the study had Cosmetassure protection, many consumers do not. Yet, today, patients can benefit with insurance provided by Cosmetassure that will cover complications that may occur during or following cosmetic surgery. The type of services covered by the insurance are: in office physician visits, emergency room visits, out patient surgical necessities and hospitalization. The procedures with the top five complication rates include: 1) lower body lift (5.43%), abdominoplasty (2.6%), face lift (1.93%), thigh lift (1.7%) and breast augmentation (1.23%). The complications were hematoma (38.66%), infection (16.71%), rule out deep vein thrombosis (4.97%), pulmonary embolism (2.89%), pulmonary dysfunction (2.71%), deep vein thrombosis (2.17%), and rule out pulmonary embolism (1.54%).
