An Israeli woman's silicone breast implants recently served a purpose greater than mere aesthetic enhancement: They actually saved her life.
The 24-year-old woman, whose name was not released, was wounded during a Hezbollah rocket attack in Northern Israel. Her silicone implants endured the bulk of the injuries, preventing shrapnel from penetrating through to her heart.
“This is an extraordinary case, but it's a fact that the silicone implants prevented her from a more serious and deeper wound,” said Jacky Gorvin, a spokesman for Nahariya Hospital.
According to the hospital spokesman, the woman did require a replacement implant. Still, “She was saved from death,” he said.
