Facial appearance can either reveal or conceal a person's age. This is especially true of the eyes, which are prone to sagging lids, crow's feet, and other telltale signs of aging. Fortunately, it's now easier than ever to achieve younger looking eyes without invasive surgery.

From injectable fillers to laser treatments and chemical peels, there are an abundance of options out there for those looking to enhance the appearance of the eyes and other areas of the face susceptible to fine lines, wrinkles, and drooping skin.

Individuals looking for a more dramatic change in appearance may want to consider Botox, hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane or Juvederm, or laser treatments. Microdermabrasion and chemical peels are effective cosmetic alternatives for achieving visible, if less dramatic, results.

What You Should Know

Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments currently available and involves the injection of a purified toxin into brow furrows, crow's feet, and similar wrinkles to paralyze the underlying muscle and create a smooth surface. Side effects of Botox are minimal and may include soreness, bruising, or headache. Results typically last three to six months.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are comprised of a synthetic version of a naturally occurring substance that is injected into deep facial folds or wrinkles to create a fuller, smoother appearance. As with Botox, side effects are minimal and may include minor discomfort, bruising, or swelling. Patients can expect results to last up to nine months.

Laser treatments use infrared light to boost collagen production in the targeted areas. Collagen is a naturally occurring protein that provides structure and support, and the production of which diminishes as a person ages. Side effects may include redness or peeling. Three to six treatments are usually necessary to achieve more lasting results.

Microdermabrasion is a procedure that involves the use of micronized crystals to remove dead cells from the skin's surface. The result is a more even toned, smoother appearance. Results last for approximately one week.

Chemical peels are offered at many plastic surgery practices. However, there are at-home options, which can be used to remove superficial layers of the skin and increase collagen production. Side effects may include redness or tingling.
