Guide to DC Plastic Surgery
The nation’s capital is an urban center with unique assets for its population along with more than its share of big-city woes. Aside from its role as the country’s political ground zero, it is also home to some excellent educational institutions and none has gained more recognition than Georgetown University. That respect for a quality institution includes the Georgetown School of Medicine and its remarkable medical facility, the Georgetown Medical Center.
Like many medical schools, Georgetown’s Department of Surgery treats plastic surgery as a subset of the general skills needed to become a surgeon. “This clinical elective presents an opportunity for the student to learn the nature and scope of this creative specialty. The art, as well as the science, of plastic surgery is stressed, with emphasis on both reconstructive and aesthetic aspects of the field.”
Clearly there is a local opportunity for prospective surgeons to study cosmetic plastic surgery. And those who are interested in finding the right surgeon for an aesthetic surgical procedure can inquire at the Georgetown Medical Center. But teaching hospitals aside, there are many other choices for plastic surgery in Washington, D.C.
Some of the District’s cosmetic plastic surgeons have more than one office in the city. Virtually all of them stress their experience in breast augmentation and body sculpting. Every surgeon has his or her techniques for body sculpting, but generally it involves liposuction with one or more surgical procedures such as a tummy tuck, buttocks lift or a belt lipectomy (body lift).
There are also facial plastic surgery experts in the capital that can execute eyelid surgery, brow lifts or full face lifts. Washington has its own glamour requirements if people are involved in the upper reaches of the political establishment. Many busy professionals find that fillers such as Botox or Restylane are a better choice, although temporary, than plastic surgery such as facial fat implants or a brow lift which require some down time for recovery.
Washington D.C. is not a place that requires a lot of searching for a cosmetic plastic surgeon. If you are involved in your own research, be sure that any doctor you intend to interview is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons. Further, ask if the doctor’s surgical facility has been inspected and credentialed. If the answer to both those questions is yes, schedule an appointment and interview the doctor to determine if he is someone you’ll be comfortable with in pursuit of your body enhancement goals.
