Guide to Indiana Plastic Surgery
With two million people in the metro area, Indianapolis lays claim to being the largest city in the state. It is bisected by an assortment of interstate freeways, giving it the distinction of being known as the “crossroads of America.” It is also a healthy, cosmopolitan city with several large acute care medical facilities and a full complement of reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgeons.
But then, so is Lafayette – the home of Purdue’s Medical School. And Fort Wayne is the home for Dupont Hospital, a unique medical acute care medical facility that has more than 600 physicians on staff working in a 210,000 square foot facility, and which is co-owned by the Lutheran Health Network and 260 local doctors.
While most cosmetic plastic surgeons have their own websites, Fort Wayne has one of the few plastic surgeons that not only does breast augmentations and face lifts, liposuction and tummy tucks, but is also a reconstructive plastic surgeon as well. Listed with the body enhancement procedures are such surgical choices as pediatric reconstructive with cleft lip and palate as particular areas of focus. It’s a rare plastic surgeon that advertises a dual practice of this type.
Bloomington is where you’ll find Indiana University and Bloomington Hospital, the major health care facilities operator in south central Indiana. There are also a number of aesthetic plastic surgery clinics in the area; you’ll even run across a ‘cosmetic dentistry’ specialist. As you get into the smaller cities and older industrial towns in the Midwest, it’s important to ask as many questions as you can think of with any cosmetic plastic surgeon you should happen to interview.
The key question is “Are you board certified?” The answer you are looking for is yes, of course, but more importantly it should be certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons. The ABPS certification is the standard by which all thoroughly trained cosmetic plastic surgeons are judged.
If your doctor is working out of his own office or some sort of outpatient surgical facility or a combination spa/cosmetic plastic surgery clinic, it is also important to determine whether or not the facility has been accredited as an ‘ambulatory surgical facility’. There are accrediting organizations for outpatient clinics of this type now, just as there are for acute care hospitals. An accredited ambulatory surgical facility will have adequate sanitation and modern equipment. Its anesthesiologists will be licensed and the staff will be properly trained. Ask the right questions and you’ll find the right Indiana cosmetic plastic surgeon to provide you with the changes you want.
