Guide to Kentucky Plastic Surgery

The Bluegrass State of Kentucky sits on the fringes of the old South. It is bordered by the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers and by Indiana and Illinois; Ohio to the north; West Virginia and Virginia to the east and southeast.  It is a state with a relatively low ratio of quality farming land, much of which has been given over to horse breeding and the crops that support that industry.  Much of the rest of the state consists of the hills and hollows of Appalachia.

The two principal cities in Kentucky are Louisville, the state’s horseracing capitol and home to the Kentucky Derby, and Lexington – home to the University of Kentucky.  These are the only two metro areas of any size, but both of them are an interesting mix of rural southern tradition and the cosmopolitan lifestyles of the state’s middle class and intelligentsia.  In recent years, the state’s populace and economy have gotten a great boost from the development of auto manufacturing in the state.

Louisville’s population of plastic surgeons has progressed to the point that there are now several doctors who advertise specialties: one focuses on breast augmentation procedures, another of face and neck lifts, yet another combines aesthetic plastic surgery with reconstructive hand procedures.  Louisville also has a number of aesthetic plastic surgeons that also are active in reconstructive surgery.  In particular, surgeons who specialize in breast augmentation often will undertake breast reconstruction operations following a mastectomy.

There is also the University of Louisville’s Medical School, which is part of a large health services complex in the city.  The school’s Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: “…is at six affiliated hospitals of the University of Louisville clustered into a medical center complex in Louisville, Kentucky. Our academic faculty is comprised of five full-time members, three full-time researchers, and an active volunteer clinical faculty of approximately 30 members.”  Thus Louisville’s plastic surgeons have a supporting medical school and clinic that is active in research and the development of new techniques.

Lexington is defined to a great degree by the University of Kentucky, which also has a medical school with a surgery department that includes plastic and reconstructive surgery as an area of study and as a residency program.  The existing cosmetic plastic surgery facilities in Lexington are thoroughly up to date, offering a full range of body lifts, face lifts, breast augmentations and rhinoplasty along with the more recently developed procedures such as liposuction, Botox, fat transplants and facial fillers.
