Santa Barbara is no more that one hundred miles from Los Angeles, but it looks and feels like California must have perhaps twenty million residents ago.  It’s an old city by Western standards, established by the Spanish.   Cultural remnants of the city’s past are abundant, from the architecture to the food to some of the annual cultural events.

The city and Santa Barbara County in general are populated with a significant number of affluent residents.  The area has also long taken pride in being an outpost, rather than a satellite of Los Angeles.  The University of California at Santa Barbara is one of the state’s finest public universities.  Santa Barbara has a long musical tradition, with major focus on outdoor concerts of all types during their spring and summer months.

It is also a city of attractive people, both locals and the members of the Los Angeles entertainment industry who call Santa Barbara home at least during some portion of the year.  There are clinics both for personal appearance and for orthopedic and sports related injuries.  Some of California’s finest plastic surgeons practice here. 

The citizens of Santa Barbara and the Santa Ynez Valley in the northwestern portion of the county have no need to trek to Los Angeles for cosmetic medical treatment and/or aesthetic surgery.  There are many established practitioners of the cosmetic medical arts and many of them are board certified California plastic surgeons.  It is probably fair to say that Santa Barbara County has more of the plastic surgeons in California per capita than any other county in the state.
