Guide to Nebraska Plastic Surgery
Nebraska has an enduring image of another Plains State where agriculture and cattle are the principal exports. Omaha has made that image obsolete with its development of high tech industries and its office buildings that house Fortune 500 companies. Six national fiber optic networks are based in Omaha, and that is just one example of Omaha’s predominance in the digital economy.
New businesses and corporate headquarters have caused the Omaha metro area to grow beyond 800,000 – and to 1.2 million if you include the city of Lincoln. The new economy has brought thousands of decidedly non-agrarian residents who utilize the products and services that define today’s active middle class – including cosmetic plastic surgery.
The University of Nebraska’s Medical School and Medical Center is in Omaha, training the state’s next generation of physicians and surgeons. In the plastic surgery division both cosmetic procedures and reconstructive surgery are taught in a two-year post-doctoral residency program. Creighton Medical School, also in Omaha, is a participant in the training program. There are cosmetic surgery services available to the public at the Nebraska Medical Center, for those who are comfortable seeking surgery in a teaching environment.
Omaha has a substantial number of board certified surgeons working in private clinics, doctors who have established outpatient plastic surgery clinics and who perform their surgeries there in the office/clinic environment. Nearly all plastic surgery procedures – from breast augmentations, to face lifts to brow and neck lifts – can be performed in an outpatient setting today. Some procedures such as liposuction require only local anesthetic. Others such as tummy tucks may require the services of an anesthesiologist but still allow the patient to return home the day of the surgery.
Lincoln also has a well established group of board certified surgeons working in clinics and outpatient facilities. Some of them engage in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, maintaining their knowledge of new developments in both fields. You will find that Nebraska’s board certified surgeons are not hesitant to employ the latest technologies in cosmetic surgery; Botox and liposuction aren’t even news anymore, and while laser hair removal and plasma skin rejuvenation might be recent additions to cosmetic surgery choices they are available in many of Nebraska’s clinics.
In both of Nebraska’s major cities you’ll also find combination plastic surgery and spa salon facilities. It is important to ask not only if your surgeon is board certified, but also whether or not the clinic itself has been inspected and certified for surgical use. Make sure one of the certifying bodies for ‘ambulatory surgery centers’ has inspected your doctor’s professional facility and found that it meets today’s medical standards.
