Guide to Ohio Plastic Surgery
Ohio is an old state, one that saw substantial immigration begin shortly after the end of the Revolutionary War. Today it has the highest density of any state outside of the Eastern Seaboard and is the seventh most populous state in the nation. As one might expect, it has several large metropolitan areas anchored by cities that have long been a part of the American landscape.
Columbus is the largest city with a metro area of about 1,750,000 residents. The largest metro areas are Cleveland with about 2.1 million residents and the Cincinnati metro area with about 2.2 million residents, although Cincinnati is a smaller city than Cleveland. Columbus is the college town, home to Ohio State and its perennial football machine. It is also a fine public institution of higher learning with a highly respected College of Medicine. Plastic surgery is one of eight specialty divisions within the Department of Surgery.
The OSU College of Medicine operates four hospitals, at least seven specialty clinics and research facilities, and primary care clinics throughout Central Ohio. It is a health care system unto itself and an important component of health care services in Ohio. Columbus is also home to a number of private aesthetic surgery clinics operated by cosmetic plastic surgeons, some of whom specialize.
There is one facility that calls itself a ‘plastic surgery recovery spa’ that is designed for patient visits of several days to get through the procedure and immediate post-operative difficulties. Another facility specializes in facial treatments with the new wave of fillers that have followed Botox, along with laser skin treatments.
Cleveland has its own fine medical school in Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. They are affiliated with several hospitals and are involved in specialty clinics and general health facilities as well. One of them is the Cleveland Clinic which has twelve plastic surgeons in house, several of whom focus mainly on cosmetic surgery. The private cosmetic surgery practices in Cleveland include one that specializes in breast augmentation, reduction and reconstruction; one that focuses on liposuction and body contouring, others that combine facial non-surgical treatments with Botox and other fillers that smooth the facial features.
Cincinnati’s cosmetic plastic surgeons can be found in clinics of varying sizes. One of them has a clinic in Cincinnati and one across the river in neighboring Kentucky. Another focuses on Cincinnati and the Dayton area. Yet another local aesthetic surgery clinic has affiliated itself with a private label skin care program as part of its post-operative services.Page Last Modified: 2009-7-3 17:34:35 UTC
