Guide to Oklahoma Plastic Surgery

Oklahoma is a state with two major cities, Tulsa and Oklahoma City.  Sixty percent of the state’s population lives in these two metro areas: about one and quarter million in the Oklahoma City area and nearly one million in Tulsa.  The University of Oklahoma’s Medical School is located in Oklahoma City as is the Oklahoma University Medical Center.  This classic teaching hospital is the largest and most diverse hospital in the area, providing services to a cross-section of the population and learning opportunities for the OU medical students.

The Department of Surgery has a small plastic surgery residency program during the last two years of a surgical residency.  Any applicant for the plastic surgery program must already have been tested and certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons.  Thus every plastic surgeon emerging from the University of Oklahoma Medical School is board certified.

Oklahoma’s largest physician group is also in Oklahoma City: the OU Physicians Group with over 450 members.  A number of them are plastic surgeons, making their services available through the OU Hospital and Medical Clinics.  The group includes specialists in:

  • Face lifts
  • Endoscopic brow lifts
  • Nose reshaping
  • Eyelid surgery
  • Liposuction
  • Breast augmentation
  • Breast reduction
  • Tummy tuck
  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Botox and chemical peel
  • Body contouring after weight-loss surgery

If a teaching hospital doesn’t suit you, there are many plastic surgeons with their own practices and their own outpatient surgical centers.  Here you will find a level of personal attention and a relaxed atmosphere that perhaps can’t be found in a hospital or large medical clinic setting.  Most Oklahoma City plastic surgeons that practice on their own perform their surgical procedures in their own offices, with licensed anesthesiologists if necessary and with state of the art medical equipment.

Tulsa has its own group of plastic surgeons operating their own “ambulatory surgery clinics,” many with substantial support staff who handle pre- and post-operative care.  Some Tulsa cosmetic plastic surgeons focus on breast augmentation including the recently approved silicon breast implants.

There are also surgeons that specialize in face lifts and the many options now available in lieu of a face lift: eyelid surgery; brow lifts; the use of Botox and other fillers for smoothing out wrinkles; neck lifts and fat transplants into facial areas to smooth out the lines and wrinkles that come with aging and fat loss.
