South Dakota remains primarily an agricultural state, although the two largest cities in the state - Sioux Falls and Rapid City – have become important population and commercial centers.  They are at opposite ends of the state with Rapid City well west of the Missouri River and Sioux falls in the East River section of the country near the state’s eastern border.
