Guide to Utah Plastic Surgery

Utah has its unique political and social history that has up until recent years defined the state’s cultural proclivities as well.  However as cosmetic plastic surgery has moved into the mainstream as a personal choice and has lost its stigma associated with conservative social strictures, the profession has made some inroads in Utah and its rapidly growing cities.

There are at least twenty other incorporated areas in the Salt Lake City metro area, towns that support their own medical and commercial services.  It is not unlikely to find cosmetic surgeons in Salt Lake City suburbs as the area has become home to over one million people and they are spread across the Utah desert surrounding the capital.  When the metro area statistics are expanded to Ogden the population totals over 1.6 million.  One cosmetic surgeon with a Salt Lake City practice is based in Las Vegas, making periodic trips to Utah to see patients.

The University of Utah Medical School is located in Salt Lake City.  Like many medical schools, Utah’s has gotten into the health care business both as a teaching mechanism and as a public service.   Perhaps the best evidence of the acceptance of cosmetic surgery in Utah may be in the University of Utah Medical School’s description of its cosmetic surgery division:

“The Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Utah specializes in aesthetic surgery. Treatment for the aging face, body contouring, liposuction, and breast surgery are areas of special interest...The Division of Plastic Surgery plans a central facility for cosmetic surgery and body contouring....This state-of-the-art facility will include comfortable outpatient clinic examination rooms as well as technologically up-to-date operating rooms. A facility for body wellness and skin care will also be located in this Plastic Surgery Institute.”

Ogden, Utah has a number of practicing cosmetic surgeons, two of whom stress not only their experience with breast augmentation, body sculpting and the like but also with the unique plastic surgery challenges posed by massive weight loss.  As the country’s obesity rate continues to climb among the young, this particular combination of cosmetic and medically important plastic surgery may become a much more frequent undertaking.

Utah’s population centers are well served by experienced board-certified plastic surgeons.  They can be found in outpatient clinics, public health facilities and university-operated health service centers as well.
