Guide to Wisconsin Plastic Surgery
Wisconsin’s two largest metro areas are Milwaukee/Waukesha with about 1,600,000 residents and Madison, the capital and home to the University of Wisconsin’s flagship campus. The Madison area has about one-third the population of Milwaukee’s metro area but often seems to have about twice as much energy. That may have to do in part with the presence of its fine University, which is also the headquarters for the UW School of Medicine and Public Health.
There aren’t many medical schools, public or otherwise, that include mention of public health in the school’s name. The University of Wisconsin has chosen to do so and has built a statewide network of public health services and facilities that are interwoven with the University’s medical school and its satellite facilities. One of the school’s departments teaches “Family Medicine.”
The UW Surgery Department has a full-service cosmetic surgery division with its own location and as described on its website, its own name for the specialty: “Cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery at UW Health is offered at Transformations, a state-of-the-art facility on the far west side of Madison, in Middleton, Wisconsin. Our board certified plastic surgeons offer a full complement of cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery and aesthetic and laser treatment options in a caring, discreet environment in the Madison area.”
Across the state in Milwaukee there is also a respected medical teaching institution known as the Medical College of Wisconsin. This school has academic departments that go beyond those found at a traditional medical school – but it also has a thorough teaching program for MDs and clinics for both teaching and for health services. Cosmetic plastic surgery is one of those services; perhaps not as strong a presence as at the University in Madison, but established nonetheless with a full list of available procedures that you’ll find at the larger cosmetic surgery clinics.
Both cities have large plastic surgery clinics –the outpatient treatment format that so many cosmetic surgeons use today. At least one practice in Milwaukee also has a licensed ‘aesthetician’ for consultation purposes on facial and other procedures such as laser treatments. She is an expert on the several forms of laser treatment and microdermabrasion.
Most people think of Green Bay as that frozen town to the north of Wisconsin with the legendary football team. In fact, it is the third largest city in the state. There are several cosmetic surgery clinics in the city operated by board certified surgeons who are veterans in the specialty. Green Bay may have the reputation of a rough and tumble blue collar town but there is also growing support for the community of aesthetic surgery specialists and their licensed staff members who provide body enhancement services to the Northeastern tier of the state.
