Cost of Blepharoplasty

The cost of blepharoplasty is determined by a number of factors, particularly the nature and complexity of the procedure, the surgeon who is performing the surgery, and the patient's geographical location. In 2003 the cost of blepharoplasty that was spent on this cosmetic procedure in the United States totaled nearly 700 million dollars. The average national cost of blepharoplasty in 2003 ranges from about one to seven thousand dollars.

The cost of blepharoplasty depends on the nature of the eyelid surgery that a patient seeks. When a patient would benefit from both upper and lower eyelid surgery, the average cost of blepharoplasty is about four thousand dollars. This cost of blepharoplasty does not cover a number of related fees such as a surgeon's fee, anesthesia fees, facility charges, medication costs, and the like. These additional charges associated with the cost of blepharoplasty can add three to five thousand dollars on to the total cost of blepharoplasty surgery.

When a patient only has lower or upper eyelid surgery, the cost of blepharoplasty is reduced accordingly. The average upper eyelid cost of blepharoplasty is a little over two thousand dollars. The average lower eyelid cost of blepharoplasty is about $2,500. These costs of blepharoplasty figures do not include the aforementioned related costs. Surgeon, anesthesia, facility and related fees can add two to three thousand dollars to the total cost of blepharoplasty for these specific procedures.

When considering the cost of blepharoplasty it is more important to find a qualified and experienced surgeon who has your best interests in mind. Finding a surgeon who offers the lowest cost for blepharoplasty may correlate with a lesser degree of satisfaction with your major surgical changes. A good surgeon will speak with you about all the details of a procedure, answering your questions and addressing your concerns, before finding a way to help you cover the cost of blepharoplasty.

Because most eyelid surgery patients seek this procedure for cosmetic purposes, the cost of blepharoplasty is usually not covered by health insurance. There are, however, cases where blepharoplasty is performed for reconstructive purposes. When the weight of the upper eyelid diminishes a patient's visual field, the cost of blepharoplasty may be covered by health insurance. When any medical condition or physical trauma causes vision problems, the cost of blepharoplasty may also be covered by health insurance.

When the cost of blepharoplasty is not covered by medical insurance, a good cosmetic surgeon will work closely with a patient to find a feasible way to cover the cost of blepharoplasty. Surgeons usually have a few payment options available to their clients to help cover the cost of blepharoplasty surgery. A surgeon may have a direct loan and/or payment plan available to their patients that allows them to pay the cost of blepharoplasty in installments. Surgeons may also work with financial organizations to help patients cover the cost of blepharoplasty.
