Collagen Treatments

Collagen is a natural protein that has been used since 1976 for cosmetic purposes. Found throughout the body, collagen can provide a great texture, resilience, and appropriate shape to fill in depressions and wrinkles. Since everybody will develop varying levels of wrinkles with age, collagen injections have proven to restore a more youthful and smooth appearance by filling in the lost skin tissue and wrinkles.

As with any cosmetic procedure, collagen injection side effects do exist. Collagen injections are not for everybody and some patients will experience allergic collagen injection side effects. Before determining if collagen injections can benefit you, two skin tests in a one-month period must be performed two weeks apart. Even if the tests reveal allergic collagen injection side effects will not be suffered, some people can still suffer them.

The allergic collagen injection side effects can appear as red, tender bumps that can end up ulcerating and causing permanent scars. The majority of people that suffer these collagen injection side effects will see them disappear over several months. Of every 100 people that receive the injections, roughly two will experience the collagen injection side effects.

One thing that some patients consider is an undesirable collagen injection side effects are the temporary results. After about six months to a year, varying depending on the individual, the collagen will gradually be absorbed into the body. It is not yet clear if collagen injection side effects include autoimmune disease, though there have been some reports of cases developing.

Every consumer should be aware of both the benefits and risks of procedures by becoming as educated as possible before considering if their characteristics make them a good candidate. When used in qualified candidates, collagen injections can provide a non-invasive way of minimizing the appearance of wrinkles by raising the depressions to the level of the surrounding skin.
