Oily Skin

Oily skin can cause feelings of self-consciousness because of the breakouts, large pores and greasy appearance that can accompany the skin condition. The result of over productive sebaceous glands, there are upsides to oily skin. People with oily skin are often slower to experience fine lines and wrinkles than people with dry or normal skin types. Still, despite any inadvertent advantages of having oily skin, there are ways to level out the skin and minimize the other not so pleasant effects.

A common, but improper, thing people with oily skin tend to do is to over wash their face. Like other types of skin types, people with oily skin should only wash their face twice a day "“ once in the morning and once before bed "“ any more and you risk stripping your skin of essential oils. Instead of reducing oil, washing too frequently will actually result in more oil to replace what has been lost.

After washing, the use of astringent can help control the oil, and throughout the day oil-absorbing papers can eliminate the appearance of shine. Using water-based cosmetics is also recommended.

Oily skin had little to do with diet and more to do with heredity and hormones. Diet does play a large role in the skin's appearance, however, and eating foods rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and drinking plenty of water will have a significant effect on the condition of your skin.
