Cellulite and liposuction

Cellulite and liposuction go hand in hand, however, performed alone, this technique of extracting fat by vacuuming it from under the skin is not completely effective for cellulite. In fact, liposuction by itself may worsen the appearance of the skin by sucking out the cushion of fat that resides just under the skin. This produces the rippling or orange peel appearance of the skin.

As we get older and the normal course of hormone fluctuations and other personal genetic inclinations surface, the skin's elasticity becomes gradually reduced. Cellulite is fat deposits in the lower extremity where skin tends to accumulate in engorged fat compartments. Over time, fat lobes under the skin increase in volume and the vertical connective fibers between the lobes shrink, causing the fat lobes to press out against the skin. Fat chambers near the skin's surface bulge then cause dimpling of the skin. In the underlying structure of the skin, there are fibrous strands which have attachment points which pull down the skin, creating the dimpled look. This external fat distribution pattern is called cellulite, and usually occurs on the thighs, hips, and waists of not only women, but also men alike.

There are medical procedures that can be combined with liposuction to help with the removal of cellulite. Along with the removal of cellulite and liposuction, a new technique can help eliminate your problem areas. Building on French technology, the Endermologie treatment has been approved by the FDA and is now available in the United States. Endermologie is a non-surgical and non-invasive procedure that involves the use of a motorized device with two adjustable rollers and controlled suction, which creates a symmetrical skin-fold. The skin gently folds and unfolds under the uninterrupted action of the rollers. This allows for smooth and synchronized deep tissue mobilization resulting in the decreasing of the viscosity of the subcutaneous fat layer. This then increases blood flow and lymphatic drainage aiding in the elimination of excess fluid and metabolites, and improving overall cellular function.

The dimpled areas can be treated to smooth out and tone the skin, allowing a shapelier figure. With a firm but gentle gliding of the sub-dermal massage head over these cellulite areas, the sub dermal fat and the offending fibrous strands are stimulated and stretched, resulting in contour smoothing. This smoothing technique has the benefits of increasing local blood flow, stimulating dermal and sub-dermal structures. Mainly, it offers a way of reducing the cellulite's impact with the removal of cellulite and liposuction surgery. To achieve the best results a combination and course of 15 - 20 Endermologie therapy sessions with a program of focused exercise, sensible diet, good hydration, removal of cellulite and liposuction. The Endermologie therapy is designed to be combined with the removal of cellulite and liposuction and is a technique for refining the most superficial skin irregularities and dimples. Tumescent liposuction remains the best treatment regarding cellulite and liposuction for undesirable, diet-resistant, hereditary fat storage pockets which cause the typical fat bulges of the outer thighs, hips and abdomen.

If you want to remove your cellulite and liposuction is being considered, additional methods will have to be performed to obtain the desired effect of smooth, dimple-free skin. It does take some time and dedication, but within a few weeks your problem areas could be part of the past. Discuss your options with an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon to decide which options will suit your problem areas the best.
