Latisse: A Reality for Dark, Full Lengthy Eyelashes

It's time to think twice about eye lash extensions, eye lash curlers and mascaras that promise longer, darker and thicker eyelashes.  Latisse, manufactured by Allergan, has been launched with success to produce dark, full, lengthy eyelashes.  Latisse is the only FDA approved treatment for hypotrichosis to grow eyelashes.

Latisse is a now a solution for hypotrichosis, a condition in which no eyelashes have ever grown.  Hypotrichosis may be caused by inappropriate genetic development or the symptom of another more serious medical condition. Numerous medical conditions have been linked to hypotrichosis, including, but not limited to: Graham-Little Syndrome, Hallermann-Streiff Syndrome (from chemotherapy treatment), Ofuji Syndrome, and certain types of chondrodysplasia.

Side Effects of Latisse

Latisse is a prescription medication that must be obtained through a physician. Physicians screen people interested in Latisse to help ensure that they are not at risk for side effects and monitor the use of Latisse. Side effects have been reported in some people using Latisse. The reported side effects are: eye irritation, redness, and dry eyes. Latisse may also result in temporary darkening of skin or hair growth should the ingredients come in contact with skin areas. However, Allergan provides an applicator for the application of Latisse in order to reduce the risk of Latisse coming in contact with an area of the skin.

Other types of eyelash growers have been on the market, but several have been removed because of side effects such as optic-nerve damage, retinal swelling, eye inflammation and impaired vision. Such side effects have not been linked to Latisse. In fact, over-the-counter and online eyelash growers are not required to go through clinical study or FDA approval processes. Only prescription medications fall into the approval process category.  Latisse has met FDA criteria for safety and efficacy.

In the end, Latisse offers a simple approach to beautiful, natural eyelashes. Clinical studies support the safety and efficacy of Latisse for eyelash growth. The cost is reasonable at $100.00 - $150.00 when considering the benefits of natural beauty to come.
