Mini Abdominoplasty

For individuals who have contour problems without a lot of loose skin, a mini abdominoplasty may be a good alternative to the more invasive techniques used in a traditional abdominoplasty. A mini abdominoplasty can consist of any of the following various procedures: liposuction, limited skin excision, and tightening lower abdominal muscles. The surgeon can tailor the mini abdominoplasty procedure to address the specific problems the patient would like to have fixed, such as laxity in the lower abdominal muscles. The muscles below the abdomen benefit most from

A mini abdominoplasty procedure will take less time than a full abdominoplasty, but the exact duration of the surgery will be determined by the amount and type of work to be performed. The incision used in mini abdominoplasty is usually smaller, and results in short bicycle handle-shaped scars just above the pubis. The surgeon performing the mini abdominoplasty will remove excess skin, tighten the fascia, perform liposuction contouring (if required), and close the incisions. The recovery period following mini abdominoplasty depends largely upon the physical condition of the patient prior to surgery. Persons who undergo a mini abdominoplasty should not expect to return to their normal activities for at least a week, and possibly up to a month.

Mini abdominoplasty is designed for problems not severe enough to require a full abdominoplasty, but too extensive to be corrected through lipoplasty alone. The mini abdominoplasty does not manage as much excess skin as the standard abdominoplasty, and is generally unable to address laxity in the upper abdominal muscles. However, mini abdominoplasty is ideal for typical complaints of lower abdominal sagging, and is popular among women who are combating the effects of pregnancy.
