Hylaform

For patients seeking treatment of lines and other skin corrections, Hylaform presents an alternative to collagen, without waiting for the results of allergy tests. Like collagen, Hylaform is injected just under the skin's surface at regular intervals in order to treat imperfections. Hylaform is a viscoelastic gel made of hyaluronic acid; the treatment's composition is based upon a naturally occurring substance known as hyaluronan that is found throughout the body and functions to keep the skin moist and elastic. Over time, the body's supply of hyaluronan diminishes, but Hylaform can be used in its place. Its composition is so similar to the natural substance that allergic reactions are extremely rare.

Hylaform can be used to treat deep facial furrows, acne scars and smile lines, and an increasing number of individuals are requesting Hylaform for use in lip augmentation. For most patients, one treatment achieves the desired results, but for particularly deep lines a second Hylaform treatment may be necessary 2 to 4 weeks later. Follow up treatments (often called "top-ups") are usually needed once every 5 to 12 months to maintain optimal results, as Hylaform dissolves naturally over time. The temporary nature of this treatment makes it ideal for patients who do not want permanent correction, and also allows individuals awaiting the results of a collagen test to receive immediate treatment with Hylaform, followed by collagen treatments as the Hylaform dissolves.

Injections take less than half an hour, and occasionally require a small amount of local anesthetic to numb the treated area. Results are instantly visible and individuals receiving Hylaform treatments can return to the office or their regular daily schedule immediately after treatment. Temporary Hylaform side effects may occur, including mild redness, itching, swelling and pain, and in very rare cases persistent redness, red spots and bruising may appear.

Hylaform allows individuals to retain a youthful appearance in quick, convenient treatments. Because it is based on natural substances, Hylaform has a minimal risk of allergic reactions, making it a popular choice for people who are unable to use collagen, or who are awaiting the results of a collagen allergy test.
